What health means to me
Hi, my name is Sam, I’m 23 and a Spanish and Marketing graduate. I’ve been interested in health and fitness since I was a teenager. For me, it’s not only about the physical benefits but also the mental ones. I also love cooking healthy food! Here are 5 tips that can help you live a healthy life.
My 5 Health Tips
Tip 1: don’t see exercise as a chore! I’m not saying to completely love your workouts but try and see it as a hobby. Do exercises you enjoy and see it as a break from your busy schedule. The more you do this, the more fitness and heath becomes a lifestyle instead of a short time diet which isn’t sustainable in the long term.
Tip 2: VARIETY! This goes for your diet and exercise plan. Split your exercise day into different groups and don’t be afraid to try new exercises so you don’t get bored of the same ones! Try different ways of exercising e.g HIIT, supersets. Food wise, don’t stick to the same food every single day - don’t be afraid to try new things!
Tip 3: PLAN! I love doing this on a Sunday night. Have 2 notebooks: one for your food and one for your exercise. Write out your meal and exercise plan for the week. This helps keep you on track!
Tip 4: REST! I workout 5-6 times a week and that is just out of personal choice. If you can only do 3, do 3! Just make sure you have rest days. Active rest days are great, you may chose to go a walk or do some yoga. Your body needs rest for your muscles to recover so it’s better to take them than to keep going!
Tip 5: EAT! Just like a car, our body needs fuel. Recently I’ve been helping friends with their diet as I saw they bought a diet plan that included water as a “snack”! She was eating so little a day and was so unhappy. Make sure you fuel yourself enough with your meals - this avoids you craving sugary snacks. A quick example would be: breakfast - overnight oats, lunch - spinach and mushroom omelette, snack - 2 rice cakes with yogurt, dinner - salmon, boiled potatoes and broccoli, dessert - watermelon and a square of dark chocolate.
OVERALL - Enjoy exercising, don’t deprive yourself of food you love! Balance and moderation is key.
