Rocky’s Matcha proudly presents its signature Houjicha, produced by fifth-generation, award-winning tea farmer Mr Kiyoharu Tsuji in Uji, Japan. Houjicha—meaning roasted tea in Japanese—is known for its deep, smoky aroma and mellow, nutty taste. The tea’s distinctive brown hue and smooth flavour come from a careful roasting process, in which tencha leaves and stems are slowly roasted in porcelain pots over charcoal.

The blend is roasted at a low temperature to preserve the delicate sweetness and subtle umami that define authentic houjicha. Naturally lower in caffeine, it offers a warm, soothing experience that can be enjoyed at any time of day.

A good quality matcha will naturally contain antioxidants, phytonutrients, and an abundance of L-theanine which supports healthy ageing, detoxification, and promotes relaxation by reducing stress signals, yet still offer a boost of energy for up to six hours. Not all matcha are created equally and potency is a matter of process and quality.

Add 1 gram (about ½ teaspoon) of matcha to a bowl or cup. Pour in 60–80 ml of hot water (not boiling, ideally 75–80 °C). Whisk briskly in a zig-zag motion until smooth and lightly frothy.

For a matcha latte, whisk the matcha with a small amount of water first, then add your preferred warm milk and sweetener if desired.

Enjoy immediately for the best flavour and aroma. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
