Resveratrol is a polyphenol and a naturally occuring product in many foods we eat. Plants produce resveratrol as a protective mechanism and response to stressors in their environments. Animals, yeasts, microbes, and insects who were treated with this polyphenol lived longer than those who were not. Resveratrol can either passively cross cell membranes or interact with its receptors, making it possile to interact with inter and extracellular molecules. It activates NMNAT enzyme, increasing intracelullar activity and levels of NAD+, making SIRT function more readily. Resveratrol does not only make cells appear younger, but behave more like younger ones too.
