A 'Criminologist Fitness Trainers' Simple Health Tips

What health means to me

Hi, I’m Laura a 24-year-old criminologist and fitness trainer, who loves doing yoga and lifting heavy weights. For me, health means to feel happy, empowered and strong in your own self. Being healthy is to feel positive about your mental health and interpersonal relationships, to have good energy levels and to feel confident and motivated in life.

My 5 Health Tips

  1. Planning. Set yourself short-term and long-term goals and make a plan to achieve them. Daily planning will help you to keep organised and make you feel accountable and accomplished.

  2. Find what makes you feel good and keep doing it. Whether that is going on a brisk walk after getting up of bed, doing a yoga practice before going to work or fitting a HIIT session on your day, find what works for you and keep doing it! If it makes you feel good you will more likely stick to it!!

  3. Do not compare yourself with what you see online. It is okay to have goals, but it is not okay for those goals to come for a place of hate about yourself. What you see online is not real life, if a picture of someone on Instagram doesn’t make you feel good, you should unfollow that person. Follow content that inspires you and empowers you.

  4. Focus on the good things. When you feel like giving up, take a step back and look at the big picture, see how far you have come & how many good things surround you. Take a deep breath, relax your shoulders and rise again.

  5. Follow a balanced diet. It is important that your diet is mostly healthy (lots of greens, a good amount of protein, healthy fats, dairy foods, etc) but it is as important that you do not restrict yourself from any food that you like. Have your favourite foods in moderation, as a part of an inclusive diet, that will be sustainable over time.
