In the ever-evolving world of biohacking, where technology meets biology in the pursuit of optimised health, few names stand out quite like Bryan Johnson. The tech entrepreneur has made headlines for his multimillion-dollar quest to reverse ageing. But now, a new contender has entered the scene. Julie Gibson Clarke, a female biohacker with a fiercely independent approach, has set her sights on an ambitious goal: to age even slower than Johnson.

A Journey into Biohacking

Julie’s journey into biohacking was not born out of curiosity alone but necessity. It began in her 30s, during what she describes as a tumultuous period of personal upheaval. A difficult divorce, multiple relocations, and a series of health scares - including two lumps in her breast and a terrifying attempted kidnapping - pushed her body to the brink. Stress manifested in acid reflux, and she was prescribed antidepressants and antacids. But she didn’t want to rely on medication for life.

“I knew there had to be another way,” Julie recalls. “I didn’t want to spend my life managing symptoms when I could potentially address the root cause.”

This led her to naturopathic medicine. A visit to a naturopath transformed her health; simple dietary shifts - cutting out wheat and dairy- resolved her reflux within weeks. Encouraged, she transitioned off antidepressants using nutraceuticals and implemented lifestyle changes that would form the foundation of her biohacking philosophy. This awakening sparked a lifelong obsession with understanding her body, optimising health, and, eventually, slowing the ageing process.

The Science Behind Slower Ageing

Julie’s approach to biohacking is meticulous, yet intuitive. She began exploring detoxification in her 40s, discovering that her genetic makeup made it difficult for her body to eliminate toxins efficiently. Chelation therapy helped, but her interest truly piqued when she learned about fasting’s natural detoxifying effects and its implications for longevity.

Her pursuit of scientific validation led her to Novos, a company specialising in longevity supplements. Signing up for their study, she received biological age tests at zero, six, and twelve months, tracking how her body responded to their formulations. The results? A significant slowing of her pace of ageing -one of the key markers for longevity.

She also delved into DNA methylation, learning how nutrition and lifestyle could influence gene expression. Inspired by Peter Attia’s Outlive, she prioritised muscle mass and VO2 max training, recognising their role in extending healthspan. Her approach is methodical yet adaptable, constantly integrating new research while staying rooted in fundamental lifestyle principles.

“I was shocked when I saw my results, I wasn’t doing all the extreme interventions that some biohackers swear by, yet my biological age was dropping. That told me I was on the right path.”

A Day in the Life of a Biohacker

Julie’s daily routine is a testament to her disciplined yet balanced approach to longevity. Her mornings begin with tea, prayer, and quiet reflection before heading to the gym. Each day has a dedicated focus - VO2 max training, strength training, or high-intensity intervals. Post-workout, she takes a sauna and cold shower, key elements in her recovery process.

Her nutrition is dialled in with precision. A greens drink in the morning, a nutrient-dense smoothie or latte later, followed by a balanced lunch of vegetables and protein. She incorporates strategic supplementation, including Novos and other longevity-focused compounds. Even her work environment is optimised - her desk features a walking pad, ensuring movement remains a constant throughout her day.

Evenings are structured for recovery. A short walk, dinner with ample greens and protein, and an early bedtime between 8 and 9 p.m. are all intentional strategies to support cellular repair and optimise sleep quality.

The Surprising Discoveries

For someone so deeply embedded in the biohacking world, Julie’s biggest surprise was discovering how little she had to do to slow her ageing. Unlike many high-tech biohackers, she doesn’t engage in extreme interventions. Instead, she has focused on a consistent, sustainable approach - proving that longevity isn’t necessarily about the most expensive treatments but about optimising fundamental lifestyle factors.

She also highlights the importance of emotional and mental well-being in the ageing process. Having navigated intense life stressors, she recognises the profound impact that trauma, mindset, and social connections have on longevity. Her philosophy aligns with emerging research suggesting that reducing stress and cultivating a sense of awe and curiosity may be as crucial as diet and exercise.

Can We Really Reverse Ageing?

Julie remains sceptical of claims that we can fully reverse ageing but is confident in our ability to slow it. She points to clear evidence: lifestyle interventions can dramatically improve biological markers of ageing. The real challenge, she argues, is separating genuine longevity science from the ever-growing wellness industry noise.

Her own journey is proof that significant change is possible. At nearly 50, she has slowed her pace of ageing dramatically, outperforming many in the field, including those using more extreme methods. By consistently tracking her biological age through tests like True Diagnostic and Novos, she is collecting hard data to validate her approach.

The Future of Biohacking

Julie’s goal isn’t just to compete with Bryan Johnson - it’s to inspire others to take control of their own health. Her journey underscores an essential truth: longevity isn’t about chasing the next miracle cure but about creating sustainable habits that enhance both lifespan and healthspan.

With a growing community of like-minded individuals following her lead, Julie Gibson Clarke is proving that the future of biohacking may not belong solely to those with limitless resources. Instead, it lies in those who are willing to take a thoughtful, science-backed, and holistic approach to ageing well.

Whether she ultimately surpasses Bryan Johnson in the quest for youth remains to be seen, but one thing is certain - she is rewriting the rules on what it means to grow older.
